Distracted driving is defined as any activity that can divert a person’s attention away from the primary task of driving. These distractions include text messaging, making phone calls, sending emails, eating or drinking, etc. Although these are activities that should be done on their own, many people find that they can multi-task while they are behind the wheel. This makes for an alarming rate of people who are killed and injured in motor vehicle crashes involving distracted drivers.
The National Safety Council marks April as Distracted Driving Awareness Month. The goal of this campaign is to encourage people to put safety first and simply “Just Drive”. It is important to spread this message, especially to young people, whom pose a higher risk of being involved in accidents due to distracted driving.
At SmartSign, we know how important it is to warn people of the dangers of distracted driving. As a sign company, we believe it is crucial to have “No Texting” signs posted near streetlights, as well as in school zones, parks, and heavy traffic areas. Remember, a simple sign can save a life.
